New City and Guilds NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice

Qualification Overview

Introduced in August 2016, the new City and Guilds NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice "3654-06" is advisable for those Supervisors, Managers and experts safety professionals with particular duties for the health, safety and welfare of others in the company. As a result, the candidate will have a significant degree of authority and sovereignty and be in a role to influence policies and procedures of their company, take a management position and promote positive health and safety practice and be able to enforce modifications referring to health and safety. The candidate should report to, or be a part of the senior management team and they should be aware of value implications and budgetary controls and may be finances holders. To obtain the NVQ level 5 diploma in Occupational health and safety practice qualification, a candidate have to show their competency, expertise and knowledge by means of completing the 11 mandatory units. This qualification lets in candidates to study, broaden and practice the abilities required for employment and for profession progression within the field of health and safety.

Mandatory NVQ Level 5 Units (3654-06)

(Unit - 402) Develop and enforce effective communication systems for information health and safety
(Unit - 510) Promote an effective health and safety culture
(Unit - 511) Develop and keep individual and organisational competence in health and safety matters
(Unit - 512) Manage health and safety risks
(Unit - 513) Develop and enforce proactive supervision systems for health and safety
(Unit - 514) Develop and enforce reactive monitoring systems for health and safety
(Unit - 515) Develop and enforce health and safety emergency response systems and strategies
(Unit - 516) Develop and enforce fitness and safety evaluation systems
(Unit - 517) Develop and enforce a health and safety audit
(Unit - 518) Behavioural safety within the place of work
(Unit - 610) Develop and enforce the health and safety policy
(Unit - 611) Professional development and ethics in health and safety management.(Unit to attain GradIOSH)

Observations

As part of the new City & Guilds NVQ standard, we must conduct an observation on you in your place of work. This must be agreed upon prior to commencement of the NVQ. There are cost implications for these:

UK – 150 to 300 GBP depending upon location
Prices for the UAE are included in the cost.
Prices for areas outside the UAE vary but will be discussed at the time of booking.

You can pay observations fees on time of booking or on a later date.

Optional Units

There are additional optional units should you wish to complete these for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) purposes. Units are 519, 520, 521, 522, 523 and 611. Please click here for details. Course Format

All necessary learning material is provided electronically with a guidebook and assessment plan. The NVQ team will monitor your progress and will offer you support and guidance throughout the duration of your course.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous and by production of a personal portfolio using reflective accounting to demonstrating understanding and application of the standards at this level; All evidence is submitted electronically.

3 to 24 Months (Average of completion time is 7 to 9 Months)

Membership to Professional bodies

IIRSM Membership

After successfully completion of NVQ Level 5 Diploma in OHS, Candidates can apply to the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management for membership at Member level - MIIRSM

IOSH Membership

Candidates may apply to the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health UK for membership at Graduate level - GradIOSH. This can lead you to become a Chartered member CMIOSH.
